We made the pilgrimage to Priest Lake for a Johnson Family Campout. Our campsites were at Beaver Creek and the weather was slated to be perfect.
We arrived on Sunday evening and shared dinner at our campsite after the kids took a quick dip in the lake.
Mitch brought his RP hatchet and set about providing us with kindling.
Monday was beautiful! We went for a short walk through the woods.
Then we set up on the beach. Eventually Dave and Vicki joined us.
The boys blew up the raft and went adventuring.
The water was cold (duh) initially, but wasn't bad after one got used to it.
The kids swam and played and swam and played on repeat.
Lifeguards on duty.
It wasn't always safe to be on a floatie...
As we keep doing, we forgot to bring our noodles. We are out of practice with being good packers!
Grandpa Dave was out to capsize ships!
They played for hours together.
It was a lovely day, until it wasn't. Once the kids got out and changed clothes, they began to itch. Crazy itching and tears. Uncle Kevin knew where to find a shower and they took several showers, and then some benadryl. Eventually the itching stopped, but it was replaced with medicated zombie children.
It was a hard afternoon and evening with sagging spirits.
Still, the kids continued to enjoy riding bikes together in an endless loop around the campground.
Tuesday morning the kids awoke covered in a red rash of bites - swimmers' itch manifested itself. With no motive to swim, we opted to leave.
Milkshakes in Priest River for the win! Another adventure with cousins makes for happy, and tired, kids!
