End of January

January has flown by! With February on the very near horizon, we bid adieu to the first month of 2016.
Poly continues to be a furry part of our lives. She is very regimented in her nightly routines and loves to snuggle in the evening.
Mitchell can read! I've never enjoyed Dr. Seuss more than when he reads it. His hard work at school is paying off as he's now doing 1st grade curriculum for reading and math. So fun to watch him learn and love it!
A sunny Saturday at the park with Dad led to some high flying littles!
Monkey See Monkey Do still copies her brother enthusiastically.

MLK Jr Weekend

We had a low-key holiday weekend but got a lot of odds and ends completed. Mom and Dad came down to play with the kids on Saturday so Bryan could help me outline my health class. So looking forward to teaching health to 7th graders this spring...We had a hot date to school, to the grocery store, and then to Star Wars in the evening.
Lots of fun!
Meanwhile, Mitch showed off his developing reading skills but reading the bedtime book himself! This guy is making great progress toward his goal!
Both kids helped Bryan paint the area around the laundry sink.
We are getting lots of odd jobs done and replacing the faucet was a big one. Check that off the list!
We enjoyed the nice weather and went on several walks and rides. BJ rode with the kids to the park and they happily played. Always nice to have a long weekend at home!

Sledding in the New Year

It's been a long time since we've had so much unstructured time at home post-Christmas. We've accomplished a lot from our to do list, and started to go stir crazy. So, we decided to embark on a new adventure in the new year and try out a new sledding hill.
The temps were in the upper teens so we were fully bundled. We went to Andies Prairie, east of Tollgate. It was delightful to drive up and out of the gloomy overcast and into glorious sunshine.
The sledding hill is a giant bowl - a rock pit, actually - which has some advantages. There are some really steep runs, and some lesser runs, lots of space for people to spread out, and no risk of running off the path and into the trees. If your run is long, you just sled right up the other side of the bowl. The downside is that the bottom area becomes congested and there is high potential for collision if you aren't careful.
We were careful and actually spent the whole 3 hours with no episodes of crying!
Mitch was a sledding trooper. His sled of choice was actually the inner tube which he carried up the hill countless times. I'm guessing they will sleep soundly tonight!
We took a short break for hot chocolate and some lunch, but we had to get moving again soon or possibly freeze!
The kids were not afraid. I was, a bit. Must be a sign of old age and a fear of chiropractor bills...
What, a jump, you say? Of course we are aiming for it!
Shan goes airborne!
The kids wore our ski goggles and it was very helpful in keeping them warm.
Mitch actually got the most air from the jump, but did so off camera.
Bryan's wild "daffy"
Shan's favorite method of sledding was "penguin-style" which meant she just launched herself down the hill, face-first without a sled.
Riding on Daddy was good, too.
I overcame my fear and went for it. All in all, a lovely end to our winter break!
