Side by Side

I've caved in. Mainly I blame Russ and his "Bryan doesn't really have expensive hobbies" comment. Then the neighbor pipes in with "Think of it as a motorized wheelbarrow!".  Of course, Mr. Cummings loaning Bryan his slightly used one was the straw that broke the proverbial camel's back.
He is ridiculously happy.
The kids love it, too!

There have been many rides up the hill (thanks to the generosity of Mr. Baird for allowing the travel on his land) and happy Indiana Jones-style adventures.
I may warm to it, but for now, I'll let the other three have all the fun!

Science Fair

Mitch really enjoyed building the trebuchet with Grampa A last year for the school science fair, so this year they decided to up their game. Additionally, Shannon wanted to participate for the first time.
Grampa and Mitch decided to build a hovercraft. It was a labor of love for a good month. Here they attach the first prototype of the hovershield. Ultimately they discovered greater success with a tarp rather than the plastic, but both did work.
When the craft was complete, they did an initial launch. Not sure how it would work, helmets were required!
Once it was lifted off the platform, it worked!
It was so exciting!! Grampa and Mitch were giddy. Shan got to enjoy a ride, too, and we managed to set off the fire alarm in the garage thanks to the leaf blower.
Meanwhile, Shan conducted her experiment using food dye with celery and white carnations. They plants absorbed the color, as she expected, but like a true scientist, she learned more than expected in the observations. Red dye 40 proved to be toxic to the celery! She wrote a great write-up for her presentation.
Once at the fair, she was all set up and had an impressive display and explanation.
It was a fantastic inaugural fair for our girl!
The hovercraft was a success as well, and proved to be quite the attraction as Mitch, Grampa, and Shannon gave rides to classmates outside toward the evening's end.
Other science fun was had as well. It was a fun experience and they are already talking about next year...

Birthdays

We celebrated some February birthdays with a Sunday lunch at our place.
Mom rocked her tiara from Phyllis...
...and so did BJ!
We enjoyed having family come and share lunch and cake. Bryan managed to get all his candles in one breath. Likely because the full amount was not there!
And a birthday poem from Vicki.
Cheers to your 39th year, BJ! And happy birthday, Mamacita!

Sunny Fun

Winter has long since parted and we are enjoying slightly warmer temps and some sunshine.
The boys are wild as ever!
A new addition to our place is a stray (Midnight) who appears to be pregnant and making herself comfortable in our red shed. Shan loves her.
She was reading her a story on the porch...
...and someone is jealous!

City League Basketball

Mitchell enjoyed playing city league basketball for the last month or so. There were 4 games and he'll gladly tell you that his team was undefeated!
Bryan and Rod and Dave did the coaching and we enjoyed watching them on the sidelines.
 Focused defender
It was fun to see MBJ so confident and improved this season.
With these coaches and kids, we filled the stands with fans each time. It was a fun season!
Here they are (minus one little dude)!

Enzian Weekend

Our Presidents' Weekend in Leavenworth was all we'd hoped for!
We dined out at several great spots and enjoyed the evening light shows.
We put on a show of our own, too!
Breakfasts were a treat, as usual, and we had a few good alpine horn players (and another who talked entirely too much!).
We went on several walks, including through town, by the fish hatchery, on Blackbird Island, and around the upper loop neighborhood. Finding toys was a bonus!
  Naturally grandmas climb, too!

This was a year of game playing! Mitch is interested in chess right now and he found a willing adversary in Parker.
There were many games of Monopoly cards and Mitch was happy to teach anyone who would sit still.

When the adults played, Mitch helped his grampa cheat...and was very proud of the tomfoolery!
We demonstrated our anti-prowess at ping pong several times
and the kids got racquetball lessons a time or two, as well.
It is fun to watch from on high!
Of course there was a lot of swimming as well, both indoors and out.
We may never be grandparents...
We did an Old West portrait for fun one afternoon
and the kids were willing to stare down their barrels for the camera!
We ate a lot, enjoyed our balcony, visited the book store several times, had gelato and ice cream, went to the chocolate store, and did all the required things...except those involving snow. Another fun year of this tradition!

Daddy Daughter Date

For a few years now, Shannon has wanted to attend the Daddy Daughter Dinner & Dance hosted by the City. For a variety of reasons (tickets sold out, snow storms, etc), it hasn't happened. However, this year Bryan was able to take her.
They got their flowers (this was a surprise to Shan) and were ready to head to dinner.
Shan chose her outfit carefully, right down to the jewelry and hair accessories. Then, she picked out her dad's tie for him.
They make a cute set! Shannon chose El Agave for dinner before the dance.
At the dance, she found lots of friends, including Miss Cora.
She had a wonderful time! Besides dancing with Cora, she and Bryan did lots of spins and twirls.
Meanwhile, Mitch and I did "Mom and Mitch's Munch and Movie". We ate at Tequila's and followed it with a viewing of Harry Potter's 6th film together. It was a fun evening!

Super Bowl Sunday

02.02.2020 - The only global palindrome of our lives!!!
Not since 11.11.1111 has there been one and the next won't come until we're all gone (12.12.2121)
It also happened to be Super Bowl Sunday. Mitch and Bryan hiked the hill to help time pass before kickoff.
Sunshine and handsome faces!
