At tonight's home basketball game, EHS opted to recognize my dad and Stacy Leonard with the Distinguished Service Award. They had no clue it was coming.
The two of them were blithely unaware of what was coming until Dave announced their names before the boys' varsity game.
They were recognized for their decades of service to the Ephrata basketball program: Dad has done the clock for 30 years and Stacy has kept book for 40 years. It was said that "through their commitment and devotion to high school students, [they] have made a tremendous impact on interscholastic activities."
They received hugs and plaques at center court, as well as a loud round of applause from a full gymnasium.
It was fun to see Dad's (and Stacy's) time and work acknowledged
and, while these two steer clear of the limelight, I think they were pleased with the gratitude and recognition.
