Birthday Weekend

We did a whirlwind trip to Spokane this weekend to see lots of family. I forgot the camera so the photographic evidence is hit-and-miss, unfortunately. We first went to a basketball game for Jack and then out to Greenbluff for hors d'oeuvres with Sue and Steve.
We dined with Gram at Fairwinds
and enjoyed some coloring and visiting afterwards.
Then it was off to LaVines to sleep!
Sunday morning we went to First Pres for Jack and Haylee's baptisms, followed by a family lunch and party for Bryan and Kim. Always so nice to spend time together!
Today, Bryan survived a wacky day at work and enjoyed an evening at home.
Hail to the Chief and happy birthday, BJ!

Enzian 2016

We enjoyed our semi-annual trek to the Enzian for Presidents' Weekend this year. This was a remarkable year because all the kids and grandkids of the core adults were present - 34 of us! We ran the town - or at least the hotel - with racquetball, basketball, swimming, ping pong, and lots of eating.
On Saturday we enjoyed a sunny walk around Blackbird Island.
There were 17 of us along for the walk - pity the errant group who got in our midst! Russ and Julie were up and Julie was introduced to more of our traditions.
Mitch and Joel kept track of our progress as we rounded the trail.
Mitch and the two younger Navarro boys climbed all the hills, threw all the rocks, and were overjoyed to discover sticks and a football along the way.
We had a sunny lunch buffet on the balcony - always a highlight!
Another way we take over the hotel - by inhabiting all the balcony rooms!
There was a lot of rain this year, but enough snow that the vistas were still pretty.
Sunday afternoon Bryan and the kids took a dip in the ice cold outdoor pool.
This smile betrays the arctic temperatures!
Thankfully, there is a nice hot tub in which to regain feeling.
Then we headed inside for more swimming. All told, the kids visited the pool 5 times during our stay. Their family played with them and it was a huge highlight for them.
Synchronized jumping is a new favorite. Notice that Monkey See has her eyes focused on her bro.
Gram introduced Mitch to Battleship and there was a lot of playing. The kids also invented some spy game with it when left to their own devices.
Checkers with Grampa rounded out the stay. We enjoyed all the family, friends, food, vising with Great Grandparents, shopping and relaxing out of town. Pitchers and catchers report tomorrow, so spring is knocking on the door!

Skiing Again!

We went up to Wenatchee on Thursday evening to begin our long weekend and stayed with the Pobst grandparents. They fed us well, read us stories, and sent us up the mountain Friday morning.
The Allstot grandparents met us for the ski outing. This was the second experience for the kids, as they did this once last year. My back was out of whack so I wasn't much help, but there were 3 other capable adults.
As was the case last year, Shan and Mitch had very different experiences. Shannon started enthusiastically enough, with Grama helping her to walk "heavy" in her skis.
The sun came out and the rain stayed away for the morning.
Soon, however, Shannon was done. We spent lots of time in the truck and after lunch, she agreed to try again with a new attitude.
Here she is, the limp noodle. Mom was worn out by day's end from packing this child around!
However, she did have a good time and left feeling happy about skiing.
Mitch picked up where he left off last year - very focused. We told him he needed to learn to stop before he could go on the chair.
With that goal in mind, he went up and down the rope tow and became more capable and controlled.
At last he could make pizza wedges and slow to a stop regularly, so it was time for the day's finale - chair 1!
The heavens opened up and the rain came down, but Mitch hung in there (so did Bryan!). They made it the whole way down the hill. Definitely not ready for it yet, but he was happy to have met his day's goal. Mission (Ridge) accomplished! We returned to the Pobsts' to dry our clothes, and then headed up to the Enzian.

Impromptu Cookie Date

What to do on a busy afternoon? Frost cookies with the Warners, of course!

Such concentration - of frosting! These are diabetic specials (and happy kiddos!).
