Spring Break in DC

This was the year for my bi-annual DC trip with students. I brought a small-ish group, but they were wonderful! Mom came along as a chaperone and hadn't been since 1972 so it was wonderful to watch her see it anew!
Ann lives in DC now and met up with us for a bit of touring on Monday. Here we are at the Star Spangled Banner exhibit in the American History Smithsonian.
The Great Auk statue (KBowl nerds for life!) at the Smithsonian Castle.
The sun shone most days, but the temps were definitely chilly. Evidence of the tough winter was abundant and buds and trees were slow to show signs of life.
In Arlington, we had the privilege to see the motorcade for the President of Afghanistan pass after he lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown. We witnessed a powerfully loud 21 cannon salute and then the kids got to meet and pose with members of the Honor Guard. It was a highlight for many of them.
Here are the chaperones at the Capitol.
Mom at Jefferson's library in the Library of Congress - always a favorite stop!
Here's the whole crew on the steps of the Supreme Court. We got to go in - which was a first for me - and it was lovely!
Always an Alice Paul geek...
I had a great trip and loved having Mom along!

Playing Catch

Because spring wouldn't be as nice without a game of catch with Dad...

How did he get so big?

Time with the Grands

We are fortunate to have parents who run to the rescue - often. We needed help in the childcare department last week and Grama A filled in. The kids benefit and we are so relieved.
One highlight was a trip to the train park, complete with sand digging, costumes, and discovering a buried Superman toy!
In Ephrata, the kids now have scooters! Shannon is especially proud of her improving skills.
The Legomania continues...
Great Grandparents Pobst came for halibut tacos Saturday afternoon and the kids had a wonderful time playing.
Then Mitch got a drum lesson at church on Sunday. He claims to want a set for Christmas... In their absence, Bryan and I worked, got a lot done, and enjoyed some time with old friends. Thanks for the gift of time, Dad and Mom!

Impromptu Playdate

There was a family emergency for our sitter today, so we punted for childcare. Shannon actually joined me at school for the first 3 periods. She did a great job - but I'm glad she isn't there to shadow me all the time! After 3rd period, we picked up Carter and Mitchell and came home to play.
These boys have a great time together - and they are kind to Shannon, too!
They are quite the duo!
