Our children are in the midst of some intriguing stages right now. Shannon is in the full blown dress herself phase. This is actually pretty helpful since we are freed up to dress ourselves for work in the mornings. She usually lets us pick out the clothes for her, but the past 2 days have been her choice, and both a variation of the following: pink leggings, pink skirt, pink t-shirt, striped socks. I didn’t pay attention to the myriad shades of pink prior to her arrival and it had not occurred to me how many of them really don’t “go together”. That is a non-issue for SJ.

She has also mastered the art of whining and screaming in a
way to get her brother in trouble. Sometimes she’s just plain dramatic. Case in
point: As I was stepping from yet another tepid shower (Another story for
another day, entitled “Reasons it’s time to house shop”), I heard sobbing from
her room. Bryan was folding laundry and he said she would not let him help her.
This is what we heard, “No one listens to me in the whole world!” Followed by
boo hoos. When I went in, she was partially clothed and tearful on the floor. I
asked why she was crying, and she replied it was because her sock was on
backwards.
Of course.

She and her
big-haired brother are sick this weekend, suffering from a chest cold
and
wheezing cough. Not a great way to enjoy the first warm springy weekend,
but
perhaps it will get this sick thing out of the way for spring break.
Mitch is very much in an anti-princess phase. He declares all princesses
(or girl characters who aren't pirates) to be "stinky". This has rubbed
off on his sister, naturally, who suggests they punch the stinky
princesses. I'm all for a tough girl mentality, but this is extreme even
for me. Mitch still loves school, his friends, pirates, firefighters,
and playing baseball with his Dad.
