Since January, I have been part of a group that meets monthly to plan our 20th class reunion. It was a process - usually enjoyable - and it all played out over this first weekend of August.
Lest one think the children were neglected, they got to spend Friday and Saturday nights with grandparents and friends. Shan was a sous chef when staying with Allstots.
Mitch got to celebrate Cooper's birthday and sleepover. They were happily removed from the festivities.
We were far from removed. Friday evening we had an open house at the Nat Washington house. The weather cooperated nicely and we were able to get everything set-up, food prepped, and the space was clean and charming. This is a tired crew already!
Friday night we invited former faculty to come visit and we had 10 take us up on the invitation.
It was fun for us to see them and fun for them to feel included, important and remembered.
The turn out was good on Friday night and the festivities went until nearly 1am. Lots of laughing, stories, and by the time it was done, we were wiped out.
Saturday morning I did some cleaning of Friday's venue while Bryan enjoyed golfing with a crew at Lakeview. He won the competition for longest drive...and was given a prize he could not accept! Some things don't change over the years! Meanwhile, I helped host an event at the city pool for families before our Saturday evening activity.
Saturday night we had a catered dinner at Pita Pit with (loud) music, (limited) dancing and lots of visiting. It was fun to see friends from years ago!
People really seemed to enjoy themselves. There were some funny stories and glory days revisited!
All told, we had 63 classmates return for the weekend - just over 1/3 of our graduating class. Compared to other classes' numbers, we felt very successful!
This is most of the planning crew - just missing 3. It was a fun group to spend time with and we may try to maintain meetings as we move forward.
So much laughing!
Senior girls, reprised.
Funny selfies. People didn't want to leave and again the night stretched into the morning.
I was relieved when it was over, though we had a great time! Seeing old friends was very worth all the effort we put in. The class of '99 is still a good one!
