The Johnson family joined up for a camping trip in North Idaho to finish off July. Unfortunately, Vicki fell as we were leaving town and broke her finger. She banged up her face pretty good and she and Dave had to stay home. We missed them.
The only downside to the campground was its distance from home. However, we got to break up the trip by stopping for lunch in Coeur d'Alene both coming and going.
The LaVines had scouted out a campground on the north fork of the Coeur d'Alene River and it was beautiful! We spent most of our time there sitting in and playing in the river. The kids caught toads, frogs, and crawdads which they kept in their rocky playground.
There were floats on the river, which was slow moving and shallow - a parent's delight!
Lots of sunscreen resulted in no burns - a major win!
The kids were brave and floated a ways down the river. They then lugged the tubes back up and repeated the fun.

This was how I spent my time. I collected pretty rocks in the water, read, visited and soaked up the sunshine.
Kevin is an engineer at heart, taking the lead and guiding us through the construction of our kitchen tent. It was new to us and came sans-directions. He rocked it!
Each of our families had our own campsite and we each hosted one dinner. That was perfect in terms of low stress planning and it meant we all gathered for the evening meals and fire. We played games and told stories in the evenings. It was lovely.
Since we were together, Mitch got a little early birthday celebration.
Hard to believe this kid is almost 9!
We had a great time and would love to make camping together an annual thing!
